How to Help

Donating blood is my way of giving something back to the community. - George

Whether you donate your blood or your time, you can
help save lives. Here are a few ways:

Donate blood: It only takes an hour, it's convenient, and it is a simple way to make a big difference. Just one blood donation could save up to three lives. You must be age 17 or older, weigh at least 110 pounds, and be in good health to donate. For more information, or to schedule an appointment, call 1-800-GIVE LIVE or make an appointment onlineMake an apheresis donation: During an apheresis (ay-fur-ee-sis) donation, you will give only one part of your blood - platelets, plasma or red blood cells, depending on your blood type and patient need in the community. Apheresis donations of platelets are often matched with specific patients, so your donation goes to a specific person in need. Learn more about apheresis or call 1-800-GIVE LIVE to schedule an appointment
Volunteer your time: Even if you can't give blood, you can still help save a life. Volunteers are crucial to a successful blood drive. Plus, you'll be working with some of the nicest people in the world — blood donors. As a volunteer: In the blood drive registration area, you can help dispel fears of incoming first time donors with a friendly smile and a kind word. Help make donors' experience a rewarding one. In the canteen area, you make donors feel comfortable and appreciated after the donation. People who have a good donation experience are more likely to become regular donors. So, you could help Sponsor a blood drive: You can also help create opportunities for others to donate — organize a blood drive at the place where you work, worship or play. 80% of the blood donated to the Red Cross is collected at mobile blood drives organized by volunteer coordinators at companies, schools, places of worship and community groups. Together we can save a life.
